Happy Birthday Chris

In August, we joyously marked Chris’s 63rd birthday. We indulged in not just one, but two cakes and two memorable gatherings before embarking on a magnificent two-week adventure in Bali.

But why did we have two parties, you ask?

The first gathering was reserved for our cherished “court companions.” Within our close-knit community, everyone shares a genuine fondness for one another, and every Friday, we gather for delightful beverages, whether it’s wine, beer, or coffee, to toast to the week’s end. Since Chris’s birthday fell on a Sunday, I thought it was the perfect opportunity for us all to relish a delectable cake together!

The cake itself was a delightful creation—an airy vanilla sponge adorned with luscious lemon curd and cream cheese fillings. Its lightness was simply exquisite, and the flavor was a true delight. However, the real adventure lay in finding the perfect decorations for the cake. Thanks to Amazon, we sourced miniature palm trees and seashell embellishments, along with a few charming toys from my great nieces, and together, we crafted a cake that captured the essence of our celebration. Chris’s beautiful Bali!

On Chris’s actual birthday, our family gathered at our home, including my son Daniel and his wife Gina, my daughter Elizabeth, and daughter Ivy. Unfortunately, Elizabeth’s fiancé, Billy, couldn’t join us as he was battling a severe flu that had been making its rounds—unfortunately, some of us feel victim to it after our get-together. Oh, the joys of shared experiences!

The day before this special occasion, I embarked on a fondant adventure, a creative endeavor I had never tried before. To my delight, it turned out to be immensely enjoyable. This cake was designed to pay tribute to Chris’s dedication and delight in his garden, featuring a charming vegetable patch with his beloved Max meandering through it.

Crafting the miniature veggies was a true delight, and Gina had a brilliant suggestion: adding various flavors to the cake’s decorative elements. This ingenious idea is something I’m certainly going to explore in the future. Since we had back-to-back celebrations with two cakes, I decided to incorporate this concept into both of them. We opted for vanilla cakes filled with zesty lemon curd and sumptuous cream cheese—a combination that was undeniably delicious. It made for a splendid day of celebration and togetherness.
