Birthday Cake Surprises

2 birthday girls – 3 cakes!

This week has been a whirlwind of cake-making activities. First, there was Ivy’s 2nd birthday cake for her actual birthday, and I had free rein to create whatever I wanted. Stepping up my game, I made a Lemon Cake with a lemon curd centre. I experimented with some new techniques, including fondant flowers and intricate buttercream lines. Speaking of buttercream – I purchased the recipe from Funky Batter, and it was worth it tenfold. The buttercream is exquisitely soft, stable, and not too sweet, making it a joy to work with. It’s definitely a winner in my book.

The second cake was for Ivy’s birthday party, which called for a themed cake. I went with a “Wild One” theme and made a simple yet delightful Biscoff & Brown Sugar cake with a cream filling pink buttercream icing. I must say, it looked adorable.

The third project was for my daughter-in-law Gina’s birthday on Wednesday. Instead of a traditional cake, I decided to create a bouquet of flower cupcakes. It was my first time trying this, and although I made a few errors, the final product was still beautiful. My son messaged me to say the Red Velvet cupcakes were delicious.
